The first speaker is up! Here’s David from Spontu!
He starts off with the question: How will the mobile look like in the future? Future being about 4 years… and he’s got a video (from youtube). It turns out to be a Nokia advertisement for the N95 “I’ve got a thing, but it’s not one thing (dishes out dice from his pocket), it’s many.”
How will social networking look like in the future? Naturally this is a tough and complicated question. How will our facebook experience change?
3 things fundamentally good
1. social networking will become concurrent - in sync with regular life
2. circumstantial
3. socially impactful Read the rest of this entry »

1320 :Meet the Intrapreneurs: WiFi the true story?
- Martin Tivéus, CEO Glocalnet, Sweden
Quick fact presented: Investments in the telecoms and/or internet infrastructure has driven productivity 5-8x higher than other investments.
Martin proceeded to talk about slow connections and stifling connectivity, citing the Wi-Fi at SIME’07 as an example. The odd thing was that Glocalnet was supposed to solve these problems, and although there were Glocalnet networks to connect to at SIME’07, I found I either
(a) kept getting disconnected every 5 seconds
(b) couldn’t even get to the Glocalnet default page when you open your browser
(c) met an error message when I finally skipped (b) and got to the welcome-click-here-to-use page, and finally clicked on the click-here-type-icon.
Coincidentally, the internet was down the whole time yesterday, and was highly erratic in the morning, but as soon as Martin was a few minutes into his speech, I found the internet working perfectly fine. Hmmm… hidden marketing gimmick perhaps?

Yay the internet works today! Finally. Here goes Day 2! I’m missing the first two speeches. (Decided to split this into two because it’s getting pretty long).
1010: User power, using the power.
- Esther Dyson, EDventure, US
Attention is key. People so not want attention form a box, but from other people. Marketers want to monetize attention. People who are obsessive want to quantity attention. Utility is ignored.
Reminds me of some people i know who simply add friends on facebook, friendster and so on, just to gain numbers. Whatever happened to human quality?
“Certainly to gain attention in the modern world, you have to be sexy (attractive)” and so on. Or you could pay someone. Words that ring quite true if you think about it. Sadly, in Singapore, a lot of bloggers are ignored though they have quality material. The popular ones are the ones who post a million photos of themselves online for others to oogle, or are really controversial. Xiaxue, for instance, first became popular because of her “b*tchy remarks. Dawn Yang likewise, gained popularity not because she was a “good/quality” blogger.
On advertisement - attractiveness sells. Read the rest of this entry »
